Advice Vixens

SELECTIONS FOR THE SMALL SCREEN...We all know that vixens are cineastes. What about the telly? We often cite episodes from "Sex and the City." Are there other programs past and present that resonate with the Vixens? In your opinion, what's worthy of Tivo, On Demand, or your hard earned bucks (i.e. boxed-set worthy)?

    Dawsons Creek and 90210 re-runs.
I am obsessed that 90210 now plays on the Soap channel.
I have On Demand set up so it tapes
both episodes every day for me! It's so grand!

And as for Dawsons...it will always have a place in
my heart! I can never get enough. I laugh...cry...and quote lines! It's a beautiful relationship!

Confession: I am addicted to "Grey's Anatomy." I've watched every episode on my Season Two DVD's so many times that I know most of the lines. I don't know what it is about that show; it's unrealistic, over-dramatic, and sometimes downright silly. But this Vixen just can't get enough!

Other than that, S&TC the only show I truly love.

90210 first broadcast on Thursday nights, providing fodder for Friday AM chats with co-workers. Brenda and Dylan were magic! I had a soft spot for Kelly Taylor, too (what she went through with her mother).

Now, Amanda, you didn't mention MP? If I remember MP aired after 90210 Monday nights. (trivia question: which future cast member of S&TC portrayed Brooke? )

Elizabeth, I think we both mentioned our love for The Daily Show in an earlier post.

Besides watching the hilarious John Stewart religiously Mon-Thurs, I've developed a serious addiction to LOST. Although, maybe it's really an addiction to the deliciously gorgeous Josh Holloway (Sawyer, on the show).

I loved Dylan and Brenda. He was good for her. She was good for him. They went well. Seasons 1 and 2 are finally out on box-sets now...and it's lovely watching their relationship. Haaa. L&O: SVU is my fave of the franchise with a really wonderful cast (rock on Richard Belzer and Ice-T). Carey Lowell was my fave female ADA from the original incarnation. Of course, Jesse L. Martin keeps things interesting as does Sam Waterston, even though he seems to be getting kinda weary of the whole thing. (Trivia Question: Which male S&TC lead first captured viewers' attention on the original L&O? Extra credit for naming the beautiful covergirl of color he dated?)

I'll have to see if I can find it on DVD. Weeds is so great! The writers really capture what it's like for late boomers and Early Gen-Xers as they negotiate middle age and lead lives of middling despair (i.e.Doug's feelings of emptiness over losing the city council election). Shane and Isabella are great kid characters.

Freaks and Geeks is honestly the best show I've ever seen. Getting the complete season on DVD was, without a doubt, one of the best presents I've ever received. The show is warm and funny but rather sad and slightly tragic at the same time. It makes me upset thinking about how wonderful the show could have been if the producers had been given another season to let the show grow. It was without a doubt the predecessor to such shows as Arrested Development and the like that have become popular as of late.

I've actually discovered most of this stuff on DVD, as I don't have cable and I'm bad at remembering when shows air. TV series are great babysitters when I am pulling knitting/crochet all nighters for deadline.

Have you ever seen "Brideshead Revisited"? It's been a vixen's lifetime since I've watched, and I'll wrap it up tonight. The acting (dream cast includes Anthony Andrews, Jeremy Irons, Claire Bloom,Diana Quick, John Gielgud, and Lawrence Olivier) and ssssartorial spppplendor is just exquisite.

I heart F&G, too, and sat shivah when it was canceled. It's been ages since I've watched an episode, but as some one who began HS in 1980, I gotta say they got all of the period details right. Not just hair and wardrobe, but the obsessions of the characters (i.e. Sam and his friends cracking each other up imitating Steve Martin) One of my fave scenes is when Nick expresses his love for Lindsay by playing drums and singing along to Styx' "Lady." One of the few shows that treats adolescence with authenticity and is affectionate without precious sentimentality.

I lived in NYC during the first season of "The Real World" which was based in the Big Apple and cast sightings were pretty common, no complaints about seeing that guy who later hosted "The Grind" in a leather vest :). The comments that the girls say, such as Kendra's "I really don't start planning my outfits until, like, a week ahead, because, whatever I put on is gonna be hot - you know, you could wear... two Band-Aids and a cork, " are hilarious! I mean WHAT?! It's the perfect show after a day of work and your brain is completely drained.
