Ask E. Jean - Tormented? Driven Witless? Whipsawed by confusion?Advice VixensIf you think you'd be embarrassed talking to your parents--just think how embarrassed you'll be when they catch you. It's always much less embarrassing to be the person who steps forward and owns up to what they do, rather than be caught.
But all of that aside: This is just as dangerous as doing drugs or cutting yourself. And I hope you know that. I think you do--which is why you're wanting very much to seek help. You have to tell your parents. It will only get worse before it gets better. It will only get harder to tell them. They won't find it embarrassing--they'll just want to help you fix it. reply to Samantha send this answer to a friendI had bulimia for 5 years I will post later how I beat this I am on my blackberry right now but hopefully I can help.

Be honest:
Mom and Dad, I need help. I can't control my eating and I"m worried about my health. Can you please take me to see a doctor? I know it's scary as hell, but you obviously want to get better which is the first step! reply to Carly send this answer to a friendSay, "Mom, Dad--I need to talk to you about something." And then tell them exactly what you told us.
Or, you can even just show them this thread. reply to Samantha send this answer to a friendIf telling your folks is difficult then either try to find another trusted adult to advise you or make an appointment with your doctor yourself.
I have had doctors send me out of the room many times to talk to my daughter privately about certain things. If you are in doubt about whether they will help you confidentially, ask first. Obviously, more than a diet plan, you need to sort out why you are doing this. The most common reason is that it is an area where girls especially but boys too, can exercise control over their lives. However, it seems as though you have already reached a point where this behavior makes you feel out of control and of course, you want help to stop it. You can also google for help groups in your area or call the numbers below to see if they can help you find help. 1-858-481-1515 National Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center International treatment referrals and prevention information edreferral@edreferral.com 1-800-931-2237 National Eating Disorders Association International treatment referrals and information I think you are very wise to try and stop this now before it gets completely out of control. reply to Josephine send this answer to a friend |

I am 17 years old, and have a problem with eating. I overeat and binge eat at least three times a week.
It all started when I was 15- I was naturally skinny, but suddenly I just started having binge episodes. I'm not sure what caused this, but since then I have put on 10 kilos (I still have a healthy BMI, but I no longer eat healthily), and since then I haven't been able to stop.
I obsess about losing weight all the time, yet I can't seem to resist the food. I find myself binging regularly, and sometimes purging or starving myself for as long as I can.
No one knows about this because I make sure I do it secretly, and I really can't bring myself to tell anyone- it's too embarrassing.
If any one confronts me about my eating habits I always lose my temper. I really don't know what to do- this is an overpowering addiction and I can't seem to stop no matter what I try. But I really feel too embarrassed about it to talk to my parents or friends.
What should I do?
