Ask E. Jean - Tormented? Driven Witless? Whipsawed by confusion?

Advice Vixens

LET'S TALK SCREENPLAY ORGANIZATION!

So, sounds like we're all wanting to get started but aren't quite sure where.

I'm thinking that for now we should just play it like AV except a smaller version.

I've been checking in latest answers - not too much goin' on,but I think people don't want to get lost.

So I, for one, am trying to check pretty faithfully in Latest Answers and build on new ideas and hone the ones we seem to like.

But WHERE'S ERVIN? He's the expert, he's done this before!

Where are all the screenwriters? I also think people will be more comfortable pouring their hearts into the project when we have something signed I guess but, contract or no, we're still just trusting E and I'm pretty confident in the protection the site offers all of us. You can never hold onto a screenplay idea totally anyway so let's get this thing written and sold!

OK Miss Beth, I'm here! What do you propose we do? I have a lot of experience in editing screenplays (thanks to my brother in the movie biz, I edit all his scripts and read scripts his company buys) and I LOVE character development, so what do you think we should do???

    Hi Miss Beth

What an amazing screenplay it would be if we all just submitted one amazing, embarrassing, passionate, life changing, foolish, or funny personal story...then cut and paste from there.

Well I am nothing if not obvious! Haha, ok so how do we get more people involved here or restart some of the character threads or make new ones?

Miss Beth, I can tell you exactly where the professional screenwriters are, but I have kept my mouth shut because I don't want to rain on anybody's parade.

If you or Auntie E. would like to e-mail me (brynne_chandler@yahoo.com) privately, maybe we can find a way around the problem so that the experienced ones feel comfortable coming out to play.

And if I have spoken for anybody who prefers that I don't, I apologize.

Brynne and I talked about the actual nuts and bolts of contacts. In order to not have anybody get shafted, there would need to be specific, contractual things done. We can continue to brainstorm and help each other out but to REALLY move forward, with all eyes open, we need to get a contract put together. And this would have to come from E.

I like Andrew's idea. I've never written a screen play in my life but I've got the time and the interest to throw in some ideas...

I want to totally work on it, but I get very absorbed into things and I guess I would like a little assurance that i'm not a little gerbil in a wheel spinning away.

Holiday movies depress me because they make this little jew girl want a christmas tree.

Besides, no holiday movie will top Love Actually.

Carly, we can choose other holidays! Like, Earth Day, or Hug a Postman Day.

What-- EVERY day isn't "Steak and a Blow Job Day"?

I'm going to have to speak to my BF about this. Apparently, I've been misled...

Actually, March 14th is "Steak and Blow Job" day.

It's one month after Valentine's day. You girls get a day, the next month WE get one! Yeah! :-D

I think we should combine the attributes of both and turn it in to one person. But she sounds very different from Olivia, so we would need to figure out why they are friends, how they met and what they get from each other (friendship-wise).

Wow, you guys are writing a movie script? THat's so cool! I unfortunately don't know about writing or anything to help, but I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

    What's it about?

    Miss Beth,

I have started copying the threads to word documents and pulling out all the extraneous dialogue (no offense meant by that, AV's). I've also try to color code the asides/ advice/ commentary to separate it from the content.

I'm not sure where to post it, as I dont' want to create a new thread. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks - so what should I do with the word files?

I agree! I think we should make her one character (coughcough named Riley coughcough) and Olivia and her friends through books. They could have met in a class their last year of college and bonded over a love of something. For example, when I was thinking about it to begin with, I have a friend a lot like Olivia and I am a lot like my Riley character, and we bonded because she was obnoxious and quoted Proust, I recognized the quote and called her out, and that's how our friendship began.

I just colored the text yellow for items that are more internal discussions or asides from the actual screenplay ideas and character development. I've removed all of the banter; the photos and the items the *** Wrote: items, so the strings read like continuous text now - (pretty much removing the chaff from the wheat.)

Perhaps Andrew can tell me how he uploaded his video to one of the strings, and then I can do the same with the word files? If word documents won't work, I could also save them as PDF's, but then you lose the ability to copy clip the text onto other documents for further organization.

Andrew - let me know how you uploaded the video to the thread - I tried copy/paste with a word file, but I couldn't get it to insert.

Videos are uploaded through youtube and just embedded on here. I don't know if there is a way to upload an entire word file.

I attached one of the files to an email and sent it to vixens@askejean.com, requesting that it be forwarded to you. If this works, then I will follow up with the others.

How does the writing get divided up? Is E. Jean just going to "assign" stuff?

I actually had a friend once who was a cocaine addict. We met while working in a pre-school together. She was so totally my opposite, but we hit it off. Don't ask me why or how--I still don't know.

She took a job as a bartender and I'd go to the club to visit her. She would drag me in the bathroom with her while she did lines.

Now, anyone who knows me, knows, that is not me at all.

Just goes to show that different people attract others for a number of varying reasons, and some don't always make sense. So the Olivia/Riley thing--can just be because.

    How about this:

A woman of 46 has just had a new passport picture taken in order for renewal, only to discover the face looking back at her is her own mother, now dead over 10 years. Facing the thought of growing older and perhaps dying at a young age as well, the woman secretly acquires her Irish passport, knowing that when she travels to Ireland on vacation with her friends, only her friends will return to the US.

With a passion for cooking she uses her credit card to finance a small shop in Dublin, and rightfully calls it, The Yankee Clipper ~

Leaving behind her teenage son and collegiate daughter breaks her heart, but also the husband she leaves behind, knowing that he doesn't have a passport to travel with, gives her the opportunity to prove to herself and also to her family that dreams can come true, you just have reach out and grab them while you still can.
